Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

Today was a good day.  I biked to work, did cardio on the elliptical for 30min and sat in lecture from 930am to 5pm.  Looong sit.  Got through it though with water and protein bars!

I picked up 2 Zone bars this AM and had my metal water bottle with me.  I did have a toasted whole wheat bagel with light cream cheese for lunch.  I loaded up on veggies at dinner at a salad bar.  And chicken.  And a dessert.  It was meh.  Won’t get it again!

Dear Diary

September 13, 2009

I’m back!  I’m back in the game.  I was down to 150lbs after all the stress, not eating and running around of the orientation week.  I’d like to keep it down, but think I already gained 5lbs in a weekend!  I’m eating again.  Mom sent me a carrot cake which I did eat all of it.  I’m back to eating healthy though.  Made chicken breasts for the coming week.  Gala apples are sooo good. Breakfasts are back to the usual oatmeal, wheat germ, flaxseed, bee pollen, berries, 2 eggs, coffee and water.

I did get back to the gym this week.  Did arms and shoulders with abs one day, and legs the next with 10min cardio.  Today I did the below workout.  I’m trying to do like 30min of cardio, or more if possible.  Trying to bike on the days that I’m not working late.

OMG!!! Orientation starts on Wednesday.  So excited and not as stressed as last week.  I’m training for my new job in the school library today and tomorrow, which compounds my busyness.  I ate breakfast (the usual) and had some cookie pizza, and a burrito for dinner.  I am running around working 2 jobs…so tired, on my feet all day!  Good news is that I’m paired with another library worker, whom I worked with at a previous library!  Yay!

Made a decision – booked a date next week with a nutritionist/trainer!  Big changes!

Dear Diary

cold

August 22, 2009

Dear Diary,

I’ve been sick with a nasty cold.  I’m hoping mono didn’t return again.  It was very hot in Toronto this past week and I didn’t sleep much, so I think that was what made it so bad.  So I’ve been taking it easy and forcing myself to eat.  Luckily I can down oatmeal, bee wheatgerm, flaxseed and bee pollen.  It’s highly nutritious, so at least even if I don’t meet my calorie requirements, I am getting some vitamins, minerals and macro nutrients.

I haven’t been biking to work or going to the gym as I’m too exhausted and didn’t want to tax my body anymore.   I did do a light weight workout today to stimulate muscles so not to lose much muscle mass through not working out or eating enough.

serneaHave lots of time to watch the WTA Rogers Cup in Toronto.  Good semi-finals match – Serena is out!

Dear Diary,

I have been battling a sore throat since the last Thursday.  On top of that, I have lost my voice!  I had to give 2 presentations yesterday, which did not help.  I have to do another one tomorrow too!  The upside is the Dean and the office boys think I have a sexy phone operator voice.  Maybe that is why I got more calls then usual today.

I haven’t been biking to work or working out, hoping to rest up to get rid of this sore throat.

I have been eating well, albeit not enough.

Breakfast: oatmeal, wheatgerm, ground flaxseed, bee pollen, blueberries

Snack: The Zone bar

Lunch: chicken eggplant stirfry on white rice

Dinner: blackened fish, blackened chicken, bourbon rice, veggies, chocolate milk

I do drink chocolate milk and water throughout the night

Dear Diary

rogers

August 15, 2009

I was feeling better yesterday so my friend and I went to the Rogers Cup Womens in Toronto.  What an amazing show!  Watched 2 games, and in both the Canadians won.  The last game was riveting – definitely even matched, back and forth, tie-breakers and in the end the woman from Japan forfieted to heat exhaustion.  Makes me want to play tennis for sure!

I rested since it was 30plus degrees.  I was tired from sitting in the afternoon sun for hours so didn’t go for a run or do any home routine.  I’ve been eating bee pollen in the AM so keen to see any benefits.  I had a piece of carrot cake.  I have to be stronger!

Lose weight and get healthy with BEE POLLEN

pollen

So as mentioned below I picked up bee pollen from a farmer’s market.  $10 for the jar.  The recommended serving (dissolved in hot cereal, water, or other beverage) is maximum a teaspoon.  Start out with 1/4 tsp and build up to 1 tsp.

Now what is bee pollen?  Pollen is the male germination cells of flowers which honey bees gather.  Bee keepers set up sets of tiny-gauge screen that “scrape” off the pollen powder from the bees as they pass through.  The pollen powder drops into a drawer which is gathered by the bee keeper.  Pollen is then dried or frozen and forms tiny clumps seen in the above picture.

Bee pollen contains almost all nutrients and all 22 amino acids, minerals, vitamins and enzymes we need.  This makes it a great addition to your morning meal.  Pollen users boast that because pollen is a nutritional powerhouse they eat less food and it’s a natural weight control.  Bee pollen is also suggested to increased your red blood cells resulting in more energy (take in AM rather than PM).  Your skin looks better and even your sex life improves.

It can be hard on your stomach so introduce bee pollen in small increments up to 1 tsp.  It’s not recommended for people allergic to pollen.   And as always, consult your doctor.

Farmer’s Market – tool to lose weight

farmers-market-photo

So today I was feeling mighty crampy and need heavy-duty painkillers.  Off to Shoppers I went and low and behold there was a farmer’s market in front just opening up.  I ended up finding bee pollen (Tosca Reno recommends it – The Eat Clean Diet).  I also picked up some peas in the pod.  I love peas.

So dinner tonight was great because I was itching to eat all the fresh produce.  I think think that buying food at a farmer’s market makes it easier for me to want to eat healthier.  I don’t know why it’s not the same for produce from the grocery store.

I did manage to avoid buying pies and chocolate zuccini bread.
