8 Foods To Pack On Muscle

Men’s Health is very straight forward with what you need to do to build muscle.  Oxygen Magazine had an interesting article a few years ago about how to lose weight like a man.  It was funny how men can and will just do what you are supposed to.  More exercise – shoot some hoops.  Eat better – cut out the fast food and junk food.  Build muscle – up the reps and the weight.  I wish I had that determination!

Check out the 8 foods here!

Dear Diary,

Today was a good day.  Hard work at the gym, no bike to work (had a lock cut off  yesterday, thank god I had a second U-lock on) and ate well.  Weighed myself this morning and just shy of 160lbs.  Need to drink more water….feel dehydrated.

Breakfast: the usual, omega 3 capsule

Snack: The Zone bar, blueberries

Lunch: chicken eggplant veggie stirfry on white rice

Dinner: roast chicken, feta-stuffed jalapeno, 2 pc havarti, mixed berries salad, chocolate milk

Snack: protein shake

Tips to Lose Weight

I’ve compiled a short list of tips that I use to help lose weight…

1. Drink plenty of water….first thing in the morning, throughout the day, before a meal and during a meal.

2. Tell someone of your goal.  I told my bf and he was actually useful.  Sometime they can be the willpower you can’t seem to find.

3. Use the web.  Find recipes, information on body mass, exercise routines, blogs like these for support, etc.  Also use the web as a distraction from eating when you are bored.

4. Eat often.  If you eat following the Eat Clean diet, you can always have food…just real food, not processed.  That is why I keep veggies and olives and almonds with me.

5. Start planning your meals.  If the task seems daunting, start with breakfast.  Plan to have breakfast.  Measure out your coffee and oatmeal, set out the dishes or pans the night before.  (Also have a glass of water first thing in the AM)

6. Start walking to work.  I started by walking to the subway station rather than waiting for the bus.  It got me 30min of walking in the morning and surprisingly I didn’t have to leave the house much earlier than usual.

7. Start with weights.  Even using your own body weight with lunges, squats and pushups.  More muscle means more calories burned just by living each day.

8.  Take a (almost) naked picture of yourself.  Weight yourself.  Record your measurements.  Sometimes this is hard but it will also motivate youself to make a change.

9.  Eat more protein.  I bet you aren’t eating enough protein.  Protein builds muscle and helps you feel full.  If you don’t eat enough protein then you constantly crave (junk) food.

Drink Water

water

I drink a lot of water.  Ask my bf – he’s amazed at how often I need to go.  But you know you are drinking enough water when your pee is clear or PALE yellow.  I read in Men’s Health a while back about the importance of drinking two 8 ounce glasses of water before breakfast.  And last night I read it again in Tosca Reno’s The Eat Clean Diet.  After a night of sleeping your body is starved for water.  Drink up.

MensHealth.com there is an article about the importance of water in muscle building (click here http://www.menshealth.com/mhlists/foods_that_build_muscle/Water_The_Muscle_Bath.php) .  Here is another interesting article on water and muscle tone (click here http://www.freedrinkingwater.com/water_heal/medical1/1-improve-muscle-tone-with-water.htm).

Finally I’m a reader of FitSugar.com and in this article they dispel some myths about water (click here http://www.fitsugar.com/1524007).
